Apple has just released the first major update to their Final Cut Pro X video editing software, bringing XMP support, and also offering a new 30-day trial version of Final Cut Pro X for customers to test the software before making a purchase.

The information was revealed in an interview with The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple. The new update, due to its XML support, will be able to import XML-formatted Final Cut Pro 7 projects, which is a feature that many users have greatly anticipated, although it will require that users export Final Cut Pro 7 projects in XML and then import them into Final Cut Pro X.
Apple has also released a new SDK to camera manufacturers, allowing them to write Final Cut Pro X plugins to enable their cameras to work natively with Final Cut Pro X. Previously, customers would have to wait for an update to Final Cut Pro bringing support for new hardware.
Finally, Final Cut Pro X now supports events and projects through Xsan, as well as an audio channeling features allowing video editors to tag bits of audio for export, making it easy to export, for instance, all soundtracks, or just all sound effects. The update also brings full support for Lion’s Full-Screen App mode.
Final Cut Pro X 10.1 (link) had not hit the Mac App Store at the time of this writing, but should land soon. An updater is available from Apple’s website, and Apple’s new 30-day trial of Final Cut Pro X can be obtained direct from Apple.

To install, first open the disk image, then double-click the installer package. You will be guided through the installation process. You can install the trial application even if you already have a prior licensed version of Final Cut Pro.
If you’re already using a licensed copy of a prior version of Final Cut Pro X, you will be prompted to upgrade your library when the trial application is first launched. It is recommended to keep a back up version of your libraries before upgrading. Once your library is upgraded, you must update your licensed copy of Final Cut Pro to access your upgraded libraries after the 30-day trial period expires.
